Well, my favorite gubernatorial candidate is back in the news. Yep, ol’ Mark Robinson, Mr. Eloquence himself.
“Oh, what now?” you may wonder. At least, those of you might wonder whose only source of news is the Old North State News. The rest of y’all probably know by now. Delicious, ain’t it?
Okay, I’ll quit teasing. Seems Mr. Robinson went down to the Lake Church, in White Lake, a tiny town in southeast North Carolina, to do some preaching. Robinson fancies himself quite the orator. While he was talking, the subject turned to evil and wicked people, torturers and rapists, and worst of all, Communists and Socialists and leftists of various sorts.
“Some folks need killing!” Robinson cried. “It’s time for somebody to say it. It’s not a matter of vengeance. It’s not a matter of being mean or spiteful. It’s a matter of necessity!” [1]
Apparently, the Ten Commandments don’t hang on the wall at Lake Church. Perhaps Robinson needs to take a listening tour to an Alabama public school. I’m sure they’d be glad to introduce him to that table of religious instructions, a moral code, if you will. As you probably know, one of those commands directly addresses Robinson’s suggestion – with no exception for “necessity.”
You may recall, avid reader, that just a couple of weeks ago, I addressed this very conduct, saying “We see antisocial behavior everywhere we look in the modern GOP . . . . This race to the bottom is how one jockeys for position in the New World Order.” And why is that so? Because – as the adage goes – getting your name in the news is a fine thing regardless, as long as they spell it correctly.
In this case, Robinson drew notice from no less that the excellent writer and historian Heather Cox Richardson. (If you’re not reading Richardson’s daily newsletter you’re missing out on some superior analysis – Letters from an American on Substack, subscription is free or paid). Richardson (and I) believe that people need to know what their politicians represent. Unfortunately, in the modern world, exposure is a commodity and the content hardly matters.
In sum, you can’t ignore him, Bible says you can’t kill him, and he won’t just go away.
